Pastor Charles J. Fuerstenau has been preaching since he was 17 years old filling the pulpit for his home church at Delphos Trinity Church.
He previously served 13 years as lead pastor for Van Buren United Methodist Church and Harrod/Maysville United Methodist Churches. Harrod and Maysville churches disaffiliated from the United Methodist Church on June 30, 2023.
In 2023, after much prayer, Pastor Charles surrendered his credentials as a United Methodist clergy person, a denomination he loved for nearly 20 years through which he found faith in Jesus Christ.
Now, he is in the process of applying for credentials in the Global Methodist Church, a Wesleyan heritage and orthodox denomination.
Originally born in Alaska, Charles is both Inupiaq Alaska Native and of German heritage. He spent his childhood growing up in Nome, Alaska and finished school in Ohio graduating from Delphos Jefferson. Charles is also a graduate of the University of Toledo with a B.A. in Religious Studies and a minor in Sociology.
In 2009, Charles married his high school sweetheart, Stephenie, who is a Delphos native, and is employed in social work. Together they have four children and a chocolate lab.
In his free time, Charles enjoys cooking, watching movies, stand-up comedy, and woodworking. He enjoys 5th Avenue candy bars, Fresca, chocolate malts, and if he could have a last meal it would definitely be Mongolian beef followed by one of his wife's award-winning apple pies (with a slice of cheese he'll add on top to honor his grandpa's favorite dessert).
At Harrod Methodist Church we operate with a Board of Directors whom can be contacted at church@harrodmethodist.org
